The Department of Mental Health Nursing takes pride in providing quality education and training. It offers comprehensive courses in Mental Health (Psychiatric) Nursing with both theoretical and practical components for undergraduate and postgraduate nursing students.The department plays a pivotal role in shaping nursing professionals who are equipped to address the complex mental health needs of individuals, families, and communities.We equip our graduates and postgraduates with the essential skills and knowledge to deliver competent mental health care across various settings.

Our faculty members are dedicated mental health professionals and educators who continuously engage in academic development, clinical supervision, and evidence-based practice to ensure quality mental health education.

Objectives:

  • To encourage student researchand innovation in core areas of mental health, psychiatric disorders, psychosocial rehabilitation, and community mental health nursing.
  • To ensure effective and efficient mental health care education and services for our student community and enable them to function as educators, managers, and researchers in the field of mental health nursing.
  • To foster critical thinking, clinical judgment, therapeutic communication, and compassionate care in handling individuals with mental health challenges.
  • To provide students with strong foundations in therapeutic communication, mental health assessment, and the use of various psychotherapeutic modalities such as cognitive behavioural therapy, family therapy, and group therapy.
  • To integrate principles of holistic care and evidence-based practice in the planning and delivery of mental health services across the lifespan.
